Route 20 – Canaleta mill

Old water mill. It is characterized by its gutter design, which allowed it to generate pressure to drive the mill wheel and grind the grain. This type of mill, although less powerful than bucket mills, was common in the area and allowed the neighbors to grind their own grain. It was part of a set of mills that were aligned along the Sarela River, taking advantage of its flow for milling. These mills were important places for the community, not only for flour production, but also as meeting and socializing points. In addition, they are a sample of the Galician rural heritage and the importance of the Sarela River in the life of Santiago de Compostela.

Route 20 – Vella de Arriba bridge

Historic bridge over the Sar River. It was recently restored and is now for pedestrian use only. It is part of the road that connects A Coruña with Lugo (old Camino Real) and was originally built in the sixteenth century, although it was renovated in the eighteenth century. The structure rests on the rocks on the banks of the river, has a semicircular vault and is part of the historical heritage of Santiago de Compostela.

Route 17 – Galician Conference and Exhibition Center

The Galician Conference and Exhibition Center, located in the San Lázaro neighborhood of Compostela, has a built-up area of more than 15,000 m2 in which all kinds of cultural and congress activities are carried out.

Route 17 – Paredes mill

Paredes Mill, located on Mount Gozo in Santiago de Compostela, is a small traditional construction made of stone, with a two-pitched tile roof. It is part of the ethnographic heritage linked to the traditional use of water in the Galician rural environment. This hydraulic mill harnessed the force of the current to grind grain and was a key element in the economy of local communities. On its main façade there is an information panel that explains the history and operation of this type of engineering, integrated today in a natural space of great interest for visitors and pilgrims who travel the Camino de Santiago.

Route 17 – Mount Gozo auditorium

In the open air, it hosts performances by world-renowned artists. Groups such as The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen have performed here, and every year a festival called O Son do Camiño is held, which brings together tens of thousands of people.
With a capacity for more than 30,000 people and stalls arranged in a semicircle, this space is ideal for enjoying outdoor shows in a natural and unique environment

Route 16 – Mantible Bridge

The Barrio de Vite preserves the last aqueduct of Santiago de Compostela: it is the Ponte Mantible, a canal built over the Corgo River that dates back to the twelfth century and is still in operation, carrying water to the city's fountains. Its construction dates back to the times of Diego Xelmírez, the first archbishop of Santiago, who was responsible, together with his treasurer, Mestre Bernardo, for carrying out major works for the city's supply network.
The massive influx of pilgrims at the end of the eleventh century led to the rudimentary system of the city being overwhelmed: the fountains did not have enough supply and it is said that the monks of San Martiño Pinario could not even wash their hands. Faced with this desperate situation, the archbishop ordered the reconstruction of a small aqueduct about two centuries old, located "a thousand steps from the city" and built in the time of Bishop Sisnando I.
This aqueduct channeled water from two springs located at the top of Monte de Vite, in Chan de Curros and Fonte Branca, and transferred it to the Convent of Santa Clara, where it was distributed in several directions.

Route 16 – Auditorium of Galicia

This large complex, which offers a high-level musical and exhibition programme all year round, is a set of stone volumes that can be seen in the pond of the Parque de la Música in Compostela. Neighboring the North Campus of the University, and a few steps from the monumental center, it has two auditoriums, exhibition hall and other rooms, as well as a cafeteria with views of the historic buildings.

Route 16 – Asén Bridge

Single-eyed bridge, made of granite perpendant. The time of construction is unknown, although due to its characteristics it may be contemporary with the tannery of Asén, from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Access is given to the neighborhood of Casas Novas, Granxa do Xesto and Monte Pío, following the route of the Stations of the Cross that goes up the slope of Pedroso.

Route 16 – Casa de Europa

The Casa de Europa is a university residence intended for the accommodation of guest lecturers and visitors from other universities around the world who come to the University of Santiago de Compostela to participate in teaching and research activities.

Route 16 – Carme de Abaixo Bridge

Also known as the Archbishop’s Bridge in old documents, it’s a double-sloped bridge that crosses the Sarela river. It was built by Ventura Valado with a budget of 8000 reals, following the project of José Santos Calderón and finished in 1760. It’s found in the neighborhood of Carme de Abaixo, at the exit of Santiago towards Fisterra, in Saint James’ Way.
